The coalfields of the Alt
Berguedà were the region's most important industrial activity
after the textile mills, which influenced the economy, the people, and
the landscape. We recommend learning more about them.

Riutort oil mine (Guardiola de Berguedà).
This mine operated for the first few years of the 20th century.
Due to its poor output, however, it was not operational for very long.
The oil was first extracted from the strata of bituminous marl that began to crop out.
Later, gallery mines were dug so that miners could look for more strata and make the
mine more profitable. On the tour, you can venture into the mine and its network of galleries.
There, you will see that, after nearly a hundred years of inactivity,
the oil still trickles out in some places.
